Compliance

HIPAA built into Arintra's architecture

Arintra handles clinical notes in temporary compute environments. PHI is discarded once codes are assigned. A Business Associate BAA accompanies every contract.

Compliance Standards

How HIPAA compliance works at Arintra

BAA
Business Associate BAA

Before access is granted, every Arintra contract includes a signed BAA. It defines allowed PHI use, code assignment only, no retention after processing, and breach notification duties.

PHI
PHI discarded after processing

Clinical notes run through temporary compute and are discarded once the code set returns. Arintra does not create a patient record database. Only anonymized aggregate performance metrics persist.

Transit
TLS 1.3 transit, AES-256 at rest

Data sent between your EHR and Arintra's processing layer uses TLS 1.3 encryption. Temporary buffers containing chart data use AES-256 encryption and are cleared when processing ends.

Access
Restricted API scopes

Arintra asks only for FHIR scopes needed for code assignment: read access to encounter, observation, condition, and procedure resources. Writes are limited to coding-specific resource types. Billing history, scheduling, and demographic scopes are not requested.

Audit
API access records

Each API call Arintra makes to your EHR records a timestamp, encounter ID, and operation type. Your compliance team may request these logs, which default to 90 days of retention.

Infra
HIPAA-eligible cloud hosting

Arintra operates on HIPAA-eligible cloud infrastructure covered by a separate BAA with its provider. Every processing pipeline service remains inside this HIPAA-covered boundary.

Arintra access and exclusions

Reads: Encounter fields, free-text assessment and plan, problem list, medications, and vitals for the encounter being coded.
Writes: CPT and ICD-10 codes with modifiers go to the encounter billing record. Nothing else is written back.
Does not access: Demographics outside the encounter record, billing history, scheduling data, insurance details, and prior encounters not submitted for coding.
Does not retain: PHI after processing. No patient database is built. Clinical note content does not remain after the code assignment job.
Does not train on: Your patient data is never used to train or fine-tune models. Processing uses models trained on de-identified, publicly available coding references.

Materials for compliance review

Healthcare organizations commonly assess a vendor's security posture before approving an integration. Arintra's compliance team can supply a completed security questionnaire, BAA template, data flow architecture summary, and references from practices that conducted their own review of Arintra.

Contact us before technical onboarding if your organization needs a custom BAA or particular language.
